Paragon "Dolly's Doctor" cup and saucer designed by Thomas Poole

Stock No. 353

An extremely scarce Paragon cup and saucer (post 1904 but pre 1914) with the children's illustrations of Dolly's Doctor. These were designed for Paragon by Thomas Poole
These designs by Thomas Poole were the forerunners of the genre epitomised by Beatrice Mallet, Eileen Soper, J. A. Robinson and others for Paragon after 1918 and through the 1920s. They made a break from the classic nursery rhyme genre and with more colourful childhood themes.
Condition is extremely good with no damages or restorations and no wear. There is a small paint stain just above the boy's top hat in the illustration on the cup and another small paint stain inside the cup near the rim. Both of these are underglaze and were done in the manufacturing process before firing in the kiln. Both marked to their bases with the Paragon Star mark and "PARAGON CHINA ENGLAND".Cup also has a pattern or shape number handwritten on the base - "4332". See also item 223
