Paragon Dolly's School plate Dolly's Doctor Mug - T. Poole- Sold

Stock No. 223

An extremely scarce Paragon mug and tea plate (both post 1904 but pre 1914) with the children's illustrations of Dolly's Doctor and Dolly's School respectively. These were designed for Paragon by Thomas Poole in the same period before the first world war that John Hassall was designing nursery rhyme illustrations for Paragon's children's china.
These designs by Thomas Poole were the forerunners of the genre epitomised by Beatrice Mallet, Eileen Soper, J. A. Robinson and others for Paragon after 1918 and through the 1920s. They made a break from the classic nursery rhyme genre and with more colourful childhood themes.
Condition is good for their age, with no damages to either piece save 2 small manufacturer's firing flaws to the base rim of the mug, some scratches to the glaze over the white background of the teaplate and a little rubbing mainly to the blue painted edges of both pieces. Both marked to their bases with the Paragon Star mark and "PARAGON CHINA ENGLAND".

Dimensions :
