Paragon China Playtime Series Mug & Plate by Eileen Soper - Sold

Stock No. 219

A Paragon China duo consisting of a mug and tea plate of the Playtime series, designed by Eileen Soper (illustrator of the Enid Blyton "Famous Five" books). The mug is illustrated with a young girl picking flowers on one side and her pet dog and mouse on the other. The tea plate is illustrated with the same young girl placing a garland of flowers around her pet's neck.
Both mug and plate bear the signature "Eileen Soper" below the designs. This series was brought out in 1935 and was only in production for a few years up to the begining of World War 2.
Both pieces are marked to the base with the PARAGON - FINE CHINA, Made in England, Copyright and BY APPOINTMENT within a heraldic device. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration and little or no wear to the designs. There is a minute (2 mm.) fleck of white paint missing from the bottom edge of the back of the mug (see second illustration) but this appears to be a tiny firing flaw when manufactured - and not a chip.

Dimensions :
Mug - height : 2.86 inches
Plate - diameter : 6.25 inches
