Rare Shelley Trinket Dish designed by Hilda Cowham

Stock No. 448

An extremely rare Shelley China fluted porcelain trinket dish, transfer printed and then hand painted in enamels, with an attractive design of a young girl in her party dress by Hilda Cowham and incorporating her signature.
This is one of the earliest designs by Hilda Cowham (her first series) for Shelley China and dates from 1924/1925.It is noteworthy that all pieces designed by Hilda Cowham for Shelley are much more scarce than those by Mabel Lucie Attwell, having been made in even smaller numbers at the time. These trinket dishes are also amongst the scarcest of the Hilda Cowham designs for Shelley in the 1920s
Condition is excellent.
Marked to the base with the green "Shelley" shield backstamp with "ENGLAND" printed below it.

Dimensions : width : 4 inches

( cf. Gifts For Good Children vol. 2 by Maureen Batkin, This is a very rare pattern not illustrated or listed on page 151 where two other designs for Hilda Cowham's trinket dishes are described and listed as probably belonging to the first series of wares by Hilda Cowham for Shelley.)
