HB Quimper Pecheur series Plate designed by Paul Fouillen - Sold

Stock No. 402

A scarce French faience plate made at the Hubaudiere Bousquet Quimper faiencerie in the 1920s and bearing an illustration by Paul Fouillen from the highly desirable and sought after "Pecheur" (Fishermen) series.
This plate is hand decorated with a hand painted illustration of a couple, he carrying oars and a fish and she carying a net, walking along the coast at the end of the day, -with the caption "RETOUR DE PECHE" (FR. Trans."Returning from Fishing").
The distinguishing features of this popular series, are that the figures depicted are animated and involved in some activity, often with a humorous slant - unlike the typical static and "wooden" figures that had largely been the norm on Quimper faience prior to this series.
Condition is good excepting a hairline running inwards from the outer rim to the inner rim (the foot ring)- more visible in the picture of the back of the plate.
