1920s Shelley Saucer by Hilda Cowham (1st series)

Stock No. 450

A saucer designed by Hilda Cowham in 1924/25 for Shelley with pairs of children alternated with black cats around the rim, and designed to accompany a cup with the legend "Pussy Cat Pussy Cat.....(Where have you been? etc.)".
The back is marked with the Shelley backstamp and the registered design no. 7096(87)
This was from the first series of designs Hilda Cowham did for Shelley and pre-dates Mabel Lucie Attwell's designs for them. It is notable that with the popularity of Mabel Lucie Attwell's designs, Shelley quickly dropped Hilda Cowham's designs - making them very scarce and hard to find today by comparison.

Diameter : 5.5 inches
