Early 19th Century Handpainted Derby Inkwell An early 19th century Derby inkwell handpainted in colours and bearing the handpainted Duesbury Derby mark in red to the base (see illus. above) which dates it to between 1800 and 1825.
The decoration is extremely similar to several pieces illustrated in Geoffrey Godden's Illustrated Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain 2nd Ed. and particularly an ice pail with the similar Duesbury Derby mark in red (item 222 page 138)which he more narrowly dates to between 1805 and 1815.
Condition is excellent, with only some minor wearing of the gilt decoration in places, and it also still contains the original separate ceramic ink well liner in undamaged condition!
