Possibly Unique Carlton Ware Walking Ware Running Eggcup
Stock No. 290
A possibly unique
Carlton Ware Lustre Pottery
running eggcup from the
Walking Ware RJS series
, designed by
Roger Michell
for CarltonWare and Lustre Pottery. These running eggcups were produced with a white / cream body
see "Walking Ware A Collectors Guide" by Julia Michell pages 34 & 71
(book is available from us - use the link to the left) -
But this example has a blue body!
It is either a trial piece or a special commission. We have never seen another one. The blue body has been sprayed and stamped before the glazing and firing and thus both colour and semi-circular Carlton Ware Lustre Pottery backstamp are underneath the fired glaze (see 2nd image above) - indicating that this was made in the Carlton Ware factory and is definitely not a fake.
This eggcup was found after the final proofs for the Walking Ware book had been agreed - so just missed being included in the publication
Condition is very good with no damage or repair. Some unobtrusive crazing.

height : 3 inches
